new ponds

Well, I guess it's as hard or as easy as you want it to be. I just wanted something simple for growing water iris and maybe the odd lily and most of all to encourage frogs into the garden for slug-eating purposes!

my teenage son dug out a rectangular hole... not very big, about 1x2m with a stepped edge and one end, for the baby frogs to get in and out by, we filled it with a pond liner and put pebbles all over then filled it with water... that's been abut it...sometimes the water level goes down inthe summer, and sometimes it overflows, due to the run-off from the field above..it's beeen arod for three years now and we are just getting our third lot of tadpoles... we get a hefty lot of spawn each year....so that's how to do it the simple way...

We dug our new pond out about 3 weeks ago and used pond liner. Once filled with water we took a trip to the Cliviger fish ponds and dug some weed up to plonk in the pond. Not sure whether this was a good idea or not, it still looks murky to me, but other half assures me it's fine. The mother-in-law supplied frog spawn a week ago, but up to now I can't see any tadpoles, but then again, that could be due to the murk Rolling Eyes
